Bookworms are always searching for new literary worlds to consume their waking life. In fact, the happiest and saddest event in their life is when they completely finish a series and have to leave that world behind. It’s for this reason why most of them are thrilled to read anything relating to the extended universe of their favourite fandoms, such as Harry Potter or Star Wars. Nowadays, there are overwhelming choices out there for recommended reading, that bookworms don’t know where to begin. Starting a new series is a big commitment, so they want to make sure that their next book is right for them. If you’re an avid reader in search of a new world, here are a few places where you can get reliable recommendations.
Publishers
Even when there are so many ways to get published these days, a lot of new authors are still adopting the traditional publishing route; they find a literary agent and then pray that a publisher will buy their manuscript. To make sure there’s enough hype surrounding their new release, the publishing company will do their best to generate a lot of publicity. One method is to promote the book on social media, so you can learn all about new releases by following your favourite publishing companies on Twitter or Facebook. This is not a guarantee that you’ll find something in your favourite genre, but it’s a good start if you’re more open to trying something different.
Speaking of Twitter, do you know who else has profiles and the authority to make good recommendations? Your favourite authors and celebrities. Authors also promote their upcoming releases on Twitter, so you know when you can book time off work to just immerse yourself in a new world created by someone you trust.
Online platforms
You don’t need to search Facebook for a community of like-minded readers for a good recommendation. GoodReads and LibraryThing are essentially online book clubs that help you find new books to read based on the ones that you have already enjoyed. You can build a virtual “shelf” of books you own or have already read, share your progress with the books you’re currently reading, rate the books you’ve read, leave reviews, and connect with other readers. GoodReads also lets you connect your Amazon account to quickly build your virtual shelf. As you finish books on your Kindle, GoodReads will automatically mark the book as complete and update your recommendations accordingly.
Reading Stash
Users of Reading Stash describe it as Tinder for books. You swipe a book to get rid of it, or like it and then go to Amazon to buy it. Reading Stash is relatively new so its genre list is fairly limited, but it has potential.
YouTube
Believe it or not, YouTube can also be considered a literary expert. Aimed towards more serious readers, BookTV is a channel that offers a minimum three-hour look at an author’s work, with questions from viewers via phone, text, email, and social media.
