To celebrate the home entertainment release of BAFTA-nominated, beautiful drama Film Stars Don’t Die In Liverpool, Lionsgate Home Entertainment UK and Liverpool Film Office will present the film in all its glory on the Hall Walturdaw screen at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall at an exclusive, special event on Wednesday 21st March.
Peter Turner, the subject of the film and author of the memoir on which it is based, will make a guest appearance at a post-screening Q&A, to answer questions on his relationship with eccentric Hollywood star Gloria Grahame, and how his fascinating story made it onto the big screen. The event will also include a one of a kind film costume exhibition, which will feature some of the most dazzling outfits that Annette Bening wore in the film whilst playing Hollywood superstar Gloria Grahame.
Also on Wednesday 21st March, in a city-wide celebration of the much-loved film the Liverpool Playhouse (as featured in the film) will host an ‘In conversation with…’ event with Peter Turner, exclusively for members of the venue’s charity, Young Everyman Playhouse (YEP). YEP provides opportunities for young people aged 14 to 25, no matter their circumstances. It supports and encourages creativity; to see theatre in a new light and to make exciting experiences for different audiences.
Featuring BAFTA-nominated performances from stars Jamie Bell and Annette Bening, Film Stars Don’t Die In Liverpool follows eccentric Hollywood legend Gloria Grahame (Bening) and struggling young actor Peter Turner (Bell) who meet and embark on an intense romance in the late 1970s. Years later, in 1981, the onset of illness leads Grahame to reach out to her former flame. When she moves to Liverpool to stay with Turner and his family, the pair’s memories of their vibrant, whirlwind courtship come flooding back.
