BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER/OZ COMIC CON – Clare Kramer Interview

By Dave Griffiths @goodbaduglyshow · On May 30, 2018

If you are an avid Buffy The Vampire Slayer fan like I am then actress Clare Kramer needs no introduction to you. She played Glory – the God that menaced the Scoobies for a whole season. Outside of the Buffy universe though Kramer is an established actress who has appeared in cult classic films like Bring It On, Big Ass Spider and one of the best films ever made – Rules Of Attraction.

A self declared geek Kramer also runs her own podcast and the Geek Nation website, both of which are filled with everything geeky. Now Kramer is about to head to Melbourne for Oz Comic Con and Dave Griffiths was lucky enough to sit down and have a chat about her brilliant career.

As we talk about the two of us being geeks Kramer laughs. “It is so funny because the term geek used to have such a negative connotation,” she says laughing. “People would be like ‘oh she’s a geek blah blah’, but now being a geek to me means being passionate about what you are interested in and being open about what you love. Part of the reason that I am an actress is because I am in love with film and television. I love every genre out there and in my case more of the darker sci-fi and horror genres I love even more. So it only made natural sense to me to take that passion and try to create an online space for like-minded people if you will. Geek Nation is an entertainment website where we have podcasts, news and a daily newspaper and it is everything from movie reviews, to social commentary and different podcasts covering the horror genre, life in the industry and my podcast is more of an interview style show so we really have something for everyone.”

Of course we couldn’t chat to her without bringing up Buffy and Kramer says the experience of being on the show was life-changing for her. “I was so naive she,” she says. “I didn’t know what it meant to be cast on that show and I remember calling Eliza (Dushku – who played Faith on Buffy The Vampire Slayer and was in Bring It On with Kramer) and saying “I have an audition for this show, I think you were on it” and she was like “yes, you need to go and you need to do a good job because you need to get that part.” So I knew going in that it would be a good thing but I didn’t have the huge pressure of knowing that it would be a life-changing thing.”

Clare Kramer will be hosting a lot of the panels at this year’s Oz Comic Con in Melbourne which is being held in Melbourne on 9-10 June. Tickets can be purchased here.
