By Victoria Myerscough @thebookthefilm · On June 16, 2017

Yes, kids movies are great for putting on when you need to make dinner, do some work or simply some peace and quiet, but sometimes we can’t help in joining our kids on the sofa. So many kids films are full of adult inside jokes or fun Easter eggs that only parents will pick up on, meaning they’re perfect for kids and parents alike. To celebrate Father’s Day this weekend, we’re taking a look at ten films that kids and Dad’s will love. So grab the chocolate, get on the lounge wear and have a brilliant Movie Weekender marathon with this lot!

The Lego Batman Movie

Being a Batman movie and featuring all the old DC comic villains including The Condiment King, The Riddler, Scarecrow, Penguin, Clay Face and obviously The Joker, The LEGO® Batman Movie is a trip down memory lane for the geeky Dad. With lots of in jokes, innuendos and fast paced action, you can’t help but be sucked into the thrilling ride that is The LEGO® Batman Movie. The film also focuses on the relationship between LEGO® Batman and his adopted son, Robin. Be an awesome padre and stick this on with the kids this weekend, out now on digital download.

Toy Story

Who doesn’t love Toy Story? And be honest, who cried during Toy Story 3? The Toy Story trilogy is a must-see for every adult and every child. The film focuses on the friendships between the legendary animated characters Buzz Lightyear, Woody and their long list of Toy friends, and what they get up to when humans aren’t around. This trilogy will live on in our hearts for infinity and beyond!

Cars

Cars The Movie

Racing cars, classic old cars and trucks, you’ve got it, this one is for the car loving Dad. Cars (one and two) are perfect Father/kids films, and with Cars 3 due this year, what better reason to catch up on them? Join hot shot race car Lightening McQueen on his journey down Route 66 to discover the town of Radiator Springs and its residents… We guarantee your Dad will be attempting Mater’s accent in no time!

How To Train Your Dragon

How To Train Your Dragon

How To Train Your Dragon is an empowering adventure story of young Viking Hiccup, who befriends a super cute dragon named Toothless, one of his village’s mortal enemies, and together they go on a breath-taking journey through the skies. You can’t help but getting swept up on a trip to Berk and the film also touches on themes of taking over the family business and becoming a leader, as well as learning to care for a pet and a difficult Father/Son relationship.

The Incredibles

The Incredibles Movie

Disney Pixar’s The Incredibles is all about the importance of family and working towards everyone’s unique talents and qualities, so what nicer themes to install in your kids. Foremost though, it’s a Superhero movie with a super strong Dad, stretchy and mouldable Mum, speedster son Dash, daughter Violet with force field and invisibility powers and baby Jack Jack who can shape shift – You’ll soon be wishing that your family had super powers too.

Shrek

Shrek The Movie

DONKEY! The first film in the series is an absolute treat and forms an all-time family favourite that can be enjoyed time and time again. The voice cast is fantastic and everyone with kids can relate to the relationship between Shrek and Donkey! It’s full of adult jokes, mainly based around Lord Farquaad (remove the r, ahem!) and the soundtrack is also brilliant… It ticks all the boxes for us!

Wreck-It Ralph

Wreck-It Ralph

The brilliant Wreck-it Ralph is one for the geeky Dads who spent their childhood in games arcades or playing 8-bit video games. The film features several cameos from real-world video game characters including Sonic the Hedgehog, Pac-Man and Boswer from The Mario franchise, and it also references other popular games such as Donkey Kong, Halo and Call of Duty. But the best part, most of the film is basically set in world made out of sweets!

Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs

Young inventor Flint Lockwood has devised a machine that can turn water into produce food, but disaster strikes and soon it starts raining giant burgers, a spaghetti and meatballs tornado strikes and the town gets snowed in with ice cream. Full of food puns “That spaghetti twister is just an amuse bouche compared to what’s on the way”, and brilliant Dad jokes, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs is great fun for all the family, but make sure dinner isn’t too longer wait afterwards!

Finding Nemo

A story about the relationships and tensions between Father and Son, Finding Nemo, and it’s sequel Finding Dory, are both heart-warming underwater treasures! You’ll be pleased to hear, Dad’s the hero in this one and the stunningly beautiful animation features many in jokes for parents, and is it just us or are the turtles high? Cool man!

Shaun The Sheep

Shaun the Sheep made his first on screen appearance over 20 years ago as a Wallace and Gromit sidekick, and has since been on TV around the globe, and a few years ago got his very own movie debut. Fans of Wallace and Gromit will love this brilliantly animated film, which is warm, funny and full of emotive characters. It also manages to deliver gags and British wit with no dialogue!
