It Sounds Berserk, But Gaming Could Be Your Work

By Victoria Myerscough @thebookthefilm · On May 9, 2017

The very definition of a game is a fun recreational activity. It seems mad, then, that the relaxing hobby of playing video games could ever possibly be careers for some people. Yet, this is the case. Pick your jaw up off the floor. Much like every other industry on earth, there’s always interest where there’s money, and there’s a lot of money in gaming.

You can laugh at all those times your mum or dad told you to go outside and play as a kid because you were “wasting away” in front of a screen. Now you can say that this was part of your big career plan all along. Here are some tips and tricks to help you turn gaming into a professional career, and we’ll look at some of the areas in which people can earn money from this insane new industry.

Tester

Remember when you and your friends were little and you always said that the ultimate job would involve playing video games all day? Well, if you’re a video game tester then this is your reality on a daily basis. Obviously, as with any job, it’s important to keep your dreams relatively grounded; hard work would still be involved in terms of filing reports, giving feedback at meetings and endlessly replaying the same games until you break those games.

Of course, you will still get to play video games as part of your job, and there’s no denying that such an opportunity is far more enjoyable than many other careers currently on the job market. Nonetheless, as the job entails that you’re a game tester, you would have to be a focused and patient individual who could deal with playing the same level of the same game over and over again until you’ve found a bug or a glitch.

Betting

Gambling in any form isn’t a suggestion that should be taken lightly if you have a problem with betting. Still, if you love the idea of living life for thrills and you have a certain talent for certain games then you could look into online casino websites. Believe it or not, professional gambling can be a thriving career both within the physical and virtual world for those who have a consistent and stable success rate when betting on certain games. It’s important that you don’t dive head-first into such a decision, of course, because gambling is a game of risk. Some experts have spent years honing the art of constantly succeeding, so you should certainly do your research first.

YouTube

A final suggestion, but possibly one of the most lucrative and easy-going of the careers, is YouTube. Professional gaming really took off on this online platform as soon as people realised that there was viewer interest in reaction gameplay or a “Let’s Play”. If you can build an audience through being your quirky self and wittily commenting on your favourite games with a webcam and screen recording software then you could be on your way to building a career out of gaming. Developers are more happy for the attention, and that means you wouldn’t only be making money for playing games but you’d get the chance to play huge titles such as South Park: The Stick Of Truth, The Last Of Us and Outlast before the general gaming market. This is definitely one of the best gaming careers.
