Fresh from successful film festival screenings in its home country and abroad, Australian horror feature Throwback will be released on DVD and Blu-ray in February. Monster Pictures will release the film in the UK on February 9th and Australia on February 18th.
Throwback follows two treasure hunters, a female park ranger and an unhinged ex-cop as they encounter a Yowie, Australia’s answer to Bigfoot, in the remote jungles of Far North Queensland. The film stars Cairns actors Shawn Brack, Anthony Ring and Melanie Serafin, plus Vernon Wells from Mad Max 2 and Commando.
Described by writer/director Travis Bain as a modern-day update on classic 1970s Bigfoot films, the indie feature screened at ten international film festivals in 2014, earned rave reviews and won awards such as Best Foreign Feature (Famous Monsters Film Festival, USA) and Best Feature (Tri-Cities International Fantastic Film Festival, USA). The film recently had its Melbourne premiere at Monster Fest and will screen in Brisbane on January 21st at the New Globe Theatre courtesy of Kristian Fletcher Events.
Writer/director Travis Bain says he is thrilled that Throwback will now be available to genre fans who were unable to see it until now.
“Not everyone lives near a film festival, so it’s great that Throwback can now reach an even wider audience through home video.”
Throwback will be presented in its original 2.35:1 aspect ratio and feature bonus materials such as a commentary, behind-the-scenes featurettes, deleted scenes, a gag reel, an alternative ending and more. Releases in New Zealand, the US and other territories are planned for later in 2015. Bain is currently developing his next feature, a science-fiction thriller inspired by the works of cult US horror writer H.P. Lovecraft.
