We Drank Their Tea, We Drank It Up!
A tea shop, with a cinema in it you say? Colour us intrigued.
Over the past month or so Newcastle has found itself inhabited by a very different beast – the Quilliam Brothers Tea Shop. In defiance of the City’s seemingly endless array of coffee bars, the quirky little shop provides a much needed change of pace from the crammed, forcefully cheerful coffee franchises. I had what the inner geek in me refers to as the Picard Special (tea, Earl Grey, hot). Well, if it’s good enough for Patrick Stewart…
This is movie site after all, so why all the talk about tea? Well, I’m British, tea is what we do! And also, the Tea House houses a fantastic twenty seat cinema in which they have regular weekly movie nights on a Tuesday screening the likes of A Town Called Panic and Delicatessen. Try asking for a cup of Darjeeling at your local Odeon, they’ll think you’ve gone mental.
There’s also a small section of gallery space showcasing the some of the regions up and coming talent and live music. If there’s any justice then this little place will pick up a loyal following and continue to grow.
