After nearly two decades in development hell, the Ghostbusters are finally making a return. However this isn’t the third movie we have all been waiting for. This will be a sort of reboot re-imagining with an all female cast.
Paul Feig who brought us the hilarious Bridesmaids and The Heat is in the director’s chair and has confirmed via Twitter that “it will star hilarious women.” Along with Feig is Katie Dippold who wrote The Heat, as of actual cast members, all we have are the hilarious women quote for now. I’m sure a few Bridesmaids cast members will be starring, if not that’s a sin.
Now obviously opinions have been split. I on the one hand grew up with Ghostbusters and anticipated the day I would see them in action again. As we know it didn’t happen but there was one saving grace. That was Ghostbusters the Video Game which was released in 2009. Dan Aykroyd himself stated that the game which he co-wrote with Harold Ramis and starred all the original members, was essentially the third movie. More on that later when I review the actual game.
So, thoughts on the all new female Ghostbusters? While it’s disappointing that the original crew won’t return let’s admit it, most of them are pushing seventy. If there was going to be a third movie it should have been made ten or more years ago. Maybe some way they can be included them but if not that’s ok because the original films will always have a place in our hearts, personally I am all for the female cast.
