There’s a lot to look forward to this festive season.  We’ve rounded up the pick of this year’s releases so make sure you do all of your Christmas shopping online and get yourself down to your local cinema.

Set during the counterculture revolution of the 1940’s, Kill Your Darlings is the true story of a murder mystery that implicated the men who were to become the icons of American Beat poetry; Allen Ginsberg (Daniel Radcliffe), Jack Kerouac (Jack Huston) and William Burroughs (Ben Foster)

Josh Brolin is looking for answers

Joe Doucett (Josh Brolin) is released from 20 years of captivity with no idea who was responsible nor the reason he was taken.  Spike Lee directs this remake of the 2003 South Korean revenge flick.  Expect violence, psychological distress and Samuel L. Jackson.

Bilbo meets his match in Smaug

Bilbo meets his match in Smaug

The heavy hitter of  thefestive releases.  Bilbo Baggins continues his journey from the Misty Mountains to the Mirkwood Forest where he and his companions must discover the secret horde of Smaug (voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch).  Everyone’s favourite blonde archer also makes an appearance in the form of Legolas.

San Diego legend Ron Burgundy and his bunch of socially malfunctioning news team Champ (David Koechner), Brian (Paul Rudd) and Brick (Steve Carrell)  head to New York’s first 24 hour news station.  If the trailers are any indication – this is going to be even more fun than the first Burgundy outing.

Keanu Reeves is back to his ass kicking best in this action packed ancient adventure. Reeves plays a ronin, recruited along with 46 others to defend a land against a powerful warlord.

Redford, the sea, a storm  and very little dialogue.  A lone sailor struggles against the elements as he struggles to cross the Indian Ocean.  Redford’s screen presence should make for a riveting watch.

Stiller goes on an adventure

In his secret life, Walter Mitty (Ben Stiller) dreams big.  When not daydreaming his life is the opposite of his alter ego, timid and shy.  When real life finally presents him with a challenge he leaps into a global adventure bigger than he ever dreamed of.
